Do you love Christmas movies as much as I do?
That's a trick question, you couldn't possibly because I love them the most!
The following list is every single Christmas related movie available on Netflix right now (in the US - other countries will have different options which may or may not include the below.) I've gone through and either given a quick summary and rating of the ones I've seen or shared how excited (or not) I am to see ones that I haven't watched yet! The rating follows our normal movie rating which you can see here (it's a scale of -10 to +10) and I'll list my desire to see it as either low, medium or high.
48 Christmas Wishes - High
This sounds really cheesy and therefore right up my alley. Some elves lose an entire town's letters to Santa so now they have to go retrieve these wishes before Christmas!
Abominable Christmas - Low
An animated film about abominable snowmen and Christmas, I guess? A short at 43 minutes.
Angela's Christmas - Medium
This is a Netflix Original and an animated short film set in Ireland in 1910.
Christmas Break-In - Low
This looks like a Home Alone knock-off that is destined to be a pale imitation of the original.
The Christmas Candle - Medium
I'll steal the summary straight from IMDB - A pastor who's suffered a personal loss accepts a position in a town that believes in a Christmas miracle candle, which he strives to abolish. Sounds like one I might like!
The Christmas Chronicles - 6
Starring Kurt Russell as Santa I would call this 2018 Netflix original a new Christmas classic. It is a fun story and is one I could watch every year!
Christmas Crush - High -2
When her high school reunion comes around the week before Christmas, Georgia is hopeful for a reunion with the one who got away!
Update: Whoo boy, bad acting, bad writing, bad directing - the trifecta! The hero really has more villain tendencies and the ending can be spotted from outer space. I'm not sure why I was excited about this one, it sucked.
Christmas Inheritance - 2
Big city girl has to go to a small town to deliver a special letter in order to get her inheritance...I remember watching it and enjoying it enough, but not enough for it to be one worth a re-watch.
Christmas in the Heartland - 1
Two teenage girls sent to spend Christmas with family they don't know or like switch places so they can experience how the other half lives. Basically a Parent Trap situation with a Christmas background. It's not unwatchable but it's not great. Also, Oklahoma is the South, not the Heartland in my opinion. Just saying.
Christmas in the Smokies - Medium
With a beautiful mountain backdrop, this movie follows the journey of one family to save their berry farm during the Christmas season. Sounds like one I want to see!
A Christmas Prince - 4
This Netflix Original is cheesy and predictable as heck but darn it if I don't love every second of it.
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding - 4
When the first one ended all I wanted was a sequel showing the wedding... and Netflix came through! Just as cheesy and predictable as the first one.
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby - 4
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage... Netflix delivers the trifecta, at Christmas, of course!
The Christmas Project - Low
A writer looks back on a memorable Christmas from his past. The summary on this one does not intrigue me very much.
Christmas Survival - High
A comedy about how hard it can be around family during the holidays.
Christmas Wedding Planner - -3
This is the only Christmas movie I've ever given a negative rating to - but it is just so bad! The story is terrible, the acting worse, and the ending had me yelling at the TV. Watch only if you want to laugh at just how bad these movies can get sometimes.
Christmas With A View - 3
The story in this one is rough - a pretty typical Christmas rom-com with a grand misunderstanding - but I bumped it up a notch in my rating because they really deliver on the views! All this movie made me want was to go skiing somewhere as soon as possible!
Christmas with the Kranks - Medium
I have not seen this one but it is based on a John Grisham novel titled Skipping Christmas which I have read and enjoyed.
A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish - Medium 2
The title pretty much gives this one away - the classic Cinderella story told in modern times with a Christmas backdrop. I'm sold!
Update: Just as cheesy as you'd expect, but pretty fun with some decent original music and surprisingly good choreography!
Dear Santa - 4
I love Amy Acker who stars in this movie about a young woman of privilege who falls in love with the owner of a soup kitchen after reading his daughter's letter to Santa. I remember watching this one and enjoying it though I can't recall all the finer points of the story right now. Maybe worth a re-watch this year!
Dr. Suess' The Grinch - High 6
I wanted to see this one when it was out in theater's but we were traveling and not going to movies at the time. Benedict Cumberbatch lends his voice to a new animated telling of this story!
Update: I loved it! The elements of humor added to this classic story had me laughing out loud. This is one I'll watch again and again.
El Camino Christmas - 1
NOT your typical Christmas movie - but might be your jam if you like action movies! Joel loved this one, I did not so much.
Elliot the Littlest Reindeer - Medium
An animated film about finding a replacement for Blitzen who retires just before Christmas.
Free Rein: The 12 Neighs of Christmas - Low
A short at 56 minutes, this appears to be a Christmas episode of a longer show called Free Rein. I'm sure it's good if you've seen and/or enjoyed the show!
Get Santa - High 8
Santa is on the run from the police? I'm intrigued!
Update: OMG this is a new Christmas classic for us! The story is incredibly clever, I literally laughed out loud, a lot, there are touching moments and lessons that are heartfelt and yet don't beat you over the head...it is just all-around awesome. If you only watch one new (to you) Christmas movie this year this should be the one!
Holiday Calendar - 2
We watched this one when it first released on Netflix and I remember wanting to like it because it has such a cool premise! A magical Holiday Calendar that reveals secrets and leads the protagonist towards her destiny... unfortunately it is poorly executed and falls short of what it could be.
Holiday in the Wild - 4
Not strictly a Christmas movie but definitely counts and is a good one to watch this year. Full of feel-good moments, heartwarming transformations and adorable elephants, it's a solid Christmas film.
Holiday Rush - High
A radio DJ is fired, moves himself and his four children in with his aunt, and plots a return to the airwaves. Sounds like fun!
Holly Star - Low
A broke puppeteer (interesting career choice!) returns home for the holidays and gets caught up in a treasure hunt. This one is not high on my list of ones to see.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - 8
The Grinch is one of my favorite Christmas stories of all time, and while the animated classic does the original Dr. Suess material the most justice, this live-action version starring Jim Carrey is excellent. Definitely one to watch this season.
Jack Whitehall: Christmas with My Father - Medium 7
This is a stand-up comedy special and for me, those are really hit or miss. I don't like ones that rely on too much vulgarity or foul language and I don't know enough about this comedian to know which way he goes on that.
Update: Ahhhh I loved this - it is totally my kind of humor. Plus he's British! I also recommend watching his Netflix show Travels with My Father to understand more of their dynamic and also for lots of laughs.
Klaus - High
This is an animated telling of Santa's origins. It wasn't high on my list of ones to see but a friend whose judgment I trust said it was good so now I do want to see it!
The Knight Before Christmas - 4
The premise of this story is ridiculous - a literal knight from 13th century England is magically transported to present-day Ohio to fulfill his quest and become a true knight. However, I appreciate that the movie doesn't take itself too seriously and there are quite a few genuinely funny moments. I enjoyed this one.
Let it Snow - 5
The snow is falling and teenagers around town are getting into trouble and hijinks. I enjoyed this fun romp!
The Magic Snowflake - Medium
A young boy named Nicholas is about to become the next Santa Claus, but must face some obstacles first!
Miss Me This Christmas - Low
A woman facing divorce (which will finalize on Christmas Day for some reason?) returns to the hotel where she married her husband and meets a new man who makes her question everything... Meh. Sounds kind of lame.
Nutcracker and the Four Realms - 6
I would call this one a new holiday classic. Full disclosure - I LOVE the Nutcracker and danced in it every year from before 1st grade through High School. This new telling of the story with even more magic and whimsy (though less dancing) is excellent and one I want to watch every year.
Pee Wee's Big Holiday - 2
If you're a fan of Pee Wee (like Joel) you'll like this one. If not (like me) skip it.
Pottersville - Medium? I think? It's so weird I can't decide! 5
A local businessman is mistaken for Bigfoot and chaos ensues? This one sounds so weird I feel like I have to watch it. It has Judy Greer in it!
Update: This movie could have been really stupid but it actually turned out to pretty clever! The movie does not take itself too seriously which helps a lot. If you want a laugh this is a good one! Not very Christmas-y though.
Princess Switch - 2
A baker travels to a foreign country to enter a Christmas baking contest and it turns out she looks exactly like the princess in this country! So, of course, they switch spots and misunderstandings, hilarity, and love ensue. Has potential, doesn't quite live up to it, and Vanessa Hudgins needs to work on her British accent.
Puppy Star Christmas - Low
This movie is in the "Air Bud" franchise, apparently, and introduces four new pups to the family. I'm pretty sure my desire to see this one is actually negative but it could be fun if you have kids? Maybe?
Santa's Apprentice - Low
In this animated film Santa reluctantly looks for his replacement.
Santa Claws - Low
The tag line is "It's a holiday cat-astrophe!" The summary of this one on imdb leaves a lot to be desired...kittens end up delivering presents after Santa has an allergic reaction? I think I'll pass on this one.
Santa Girl - 5
Santa's daughter successfully argues that she should get to attend college in the real world. It is cheesy, hilarious, and kind of full of plot holes but I enjoyed the ride nonetheless.
Spirit Riding Free: Spirit of Christmas - Low
Spirit Riding Free is an animated film from 2017 - so here's the requisite Christmas short to accompany it!
Super Monsters Save Christmas - Low
I think Super Monsters is a kid's show? Anyway, this is an animated holiday short starring those characters. Fun if you have kids and are familiar with the show, I'm sure.
Trolls Holiday Special - 5
If you enjoyed the Trolls movie (and really, who didn't it's good!) then you'll enjoy this fast-paced romp through all of the holidays with the characters and original voice actors from the movie! At only 26 minutes it won't take much of your time but you will love it!
Unaccompanied Minors - High 2
Somehow I have not seen this movie from 2006. Minors are snowed in at a Midwestern airport - I assume they get up to some holiday hijinks and then probably a good lesson!
Update: It's a rough start with clunky writing and some major over-acting. Strangely enough, it gets betters by the 3rd act and even ends up rather heartwarming!
White Christmas - 8
This is a literal classic that everyone must watch at least once in their lives. My family used to watch it every year!
You Can't Fight Christmas - High
Christmas enthusiast and designer tries to get a Scrooge-like business man to love Christmas? Heck yes, this sounds right up my alley!
