My Watch List for 2025

Submitted by Bethany on Wed, 01/01/2025 - 10:00

Happy New Year!

Here is where I'll keep track of what we watch in 2025!

My Watch List for 2025:

Movies:

1. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
Jacob dragged me to this one...it wasn't as bad as I expected!

2. Avengers: Infinity War
I watched this on the plane on my flight back to the USA!

3. Avengers: Endgame
I also watched this one the plane, which was a bit of a mistake as then I was sobbing quietly in my seat, lol. I think I freaked out the guy next to me a bit.

4. Bridget Jones' Diary (Max)
I spent an evening hanging out with my brother and watching all 3 Bridget Jones movies in preparation for the fourth one coming out later this year. It was also national popcorn day and we were able to get a huge bucket for only $5 from the local theater. Boy how I have missed American movie theater popcorn!

5. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (Max)

6. Bridget Jones' Baby (Max)

7. Summer Camp
This was my mom's pick for a movie night and it was actually pretty cute!

8. Juror #2 (Max)
I absolutely loved this tense thriller and was riveted the entire time. Joel thought it was a bit heavy handed but I loved the themes it explored. And I always love Toni Collette and JK Simmons!

9. Thelma

10. A Complete Unknown (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
We don't often go to biopics, but Joel was interested in this one about Bob Dylan. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but man, he was kind of a dick.

11. Back in Action (Netflix)
Cameron Diaz is back in action and she has excellent chemistry with Jamie Fox! I feel like the theme of former spy turned family person pulled back into spy game has been done a lot lately, but this one was still fun.

12. You're Cordially Invited (Prime)
This Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrel comedy was over the top and completely ridiculous at times but I still enjoyed it.

13. Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose (Prime)
I usually love Simon Pegg but this one was weird and I fell asleep during it, for what that's worth. Joel enjoyed it though.

14. Canary Black (Prime)
I was in the mood for a mindless action flick and this Kate Beckinsale led piece fit the bill!

15. Escape (Prime)
This movie played automatically after the previous one and I didn't really watch it (I think I was working on the blog, but Joel kinda did!)

16. Girl (Prime)
Same with this one, it auto played and we only kinda watched.

17. Self Reliance (Netflix Canada)
When I saw this one had Andy Samberg, Jake Johnson, and Anna Kendrick, I was in. It was a fascinating concept about what you would do if you were on a reality show where people were trying to kill you! It was hilarious and weird.

18. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
The first Bridget Jones movie will always be the best one, but I did like this one better than the 2nd or 3rd. But it won't be a rewatch for me I don't think.

19. Captain America: Brave New World (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
I used to adore Marvel films and always anticipated new releases, but since End Game, they've been very hit or miss. This was a miss for me. The marketing for it was also super annoying, giving away huge spoilers!

20. Interstate 60 (Prime)
Joel spotted this weird indie movie about a man who grants wishes and a young man trying to decide what to do with his life. It was interesting and quirky, good for a laugh but not a classic.

21. Oz the Great and Powerful (Prime)
Joel wanted to watch this one to finish off our Wizard of Oz universe viewing. This one is not good and never needs to be watched again. It was clearly created to be watched in 3D and the animation/CGI was often really terrible. The acting was not great and the story it very meh compared to Wicked

22. Wicked (Own digital copy)
A friend of ours lent us their digital copy of Wicked for our first viewing at home. I don't think I will ever tire of this movie!

23. Mickey 17 (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
The acting in this movie was so good - Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, and more were all top notch. But the story tried to go in too many different directions and ended up not doing any of the story lines justice. It was based on a book and I think they tried to cram everything in to stay true to the book at the expense of the movie. I did not enjoy it.

24. Elevation (Max)
Anthony Mackie stars in this futuristic thriller about monsters that hunt humans who live or go below a certain elevation. It was an intriguing story that left some questions at the end, I'm hoping for a sequel.

25. Black Bag (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
This spy thriller was a good story and I liked that it wasn't long and drawn out. The only downside is I really could have used subtitles for some of those British accents, especially when the characters were acting drunk!

26. The Electric State (Netflix)
A fun action story about a future filled with robots! Not Chris Pratt or Millie Bobby Brown's best, but they are always enjoyable to watch.

27. Boss Level (Netflix)
Add this one to the genre of day-repeating films, and be sure to watch it, it's a good one!

28. A Working Man (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
I love a good Jason Statham movie...this one, however, not his best work. I could have skipped it.

29. Subservience (Netflix)
I actually quite enjoyed this movie about hot robot servants and the implications that could have for humanity.

30. Dream Horse (Channel 4)
We scoured our streaming services looking for an appropriately British movie to watch to celebrate finally getting our ILR, and this one fit the bill perfectly! It's about a small Welsh town that goes in together on buying a racehorse.

31. Death of a Unicorn (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
This movie is a wild-ride and incredibly well-acted. I enjoyed it.

32. The Dead Don't Die (Netflix)
This movie caught our eye because it is filled with A-list stars - Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Danny Glover and more! It watches more like a B-movie, but was entertaining nonetheless.

33. The Amateur (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
Rami Malek stars as a CIA analyst who, when his wife is murdered, wants to enter the field to get his revenge. It was an excellent spy thriller.

34. G20 (Prime)
This movie is exactly what I wanted it to be - a bit cheesy but with some great action and it is always so fun to watch Viola Davis kick some butt. I highly recommend as an enjoyable popcorn movie!

35. Thunderbolts (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
My love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has wavered a bit with the offerings since End Game, so my expectations were fairly low going into this one. Thankfully, it exceeded them! It was a solid movie, well paced, appropriately alternating between humor and sentiment, and hopefully sets things up well for the MCU going forward.

36. The Accountant (Max)
With the sequel coming out, we had to rewatch this one, which we have already seen several times. There are so many connections to pick up on, and I always love watching Anna Kendrick!

37. The Accountant 2 (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
Not as good as the original, but still a good movie!

38. Sinners (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
I had the concept for this one spoiled for me, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would!

39. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (Netflix)

40. Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)

41. Conclave (Prime)
This was the definition of a slow burn, and I'm glad we skipped it in theaters to watch at home. But overall, I enjoyed it, and I'm definitely glad I watched it.

42. How to Train Your Dragon (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
We took Jacob with us to see this one in 4DX and it was so good!

43. Ballerina (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)

44. 28 Days Later (BBC)

45. 28 Weeks Later (Disney+)

46. 28 Years Later (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
I was very excited for this film as I enjoyed the first two and was interested to see how they continued it. Unfortunately, it was a pile of hot steaming garbage and we walked out before the end. When I read up on the ending online, I was even more grateful for our decision to leave early.

47. Jurassic World: Rebirth (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)

48. Mountainhead (Max)

49. Heads of State (Prime)
If you are looking for a fun popcorn action movie definitely check this one out! It's silly but very enjoyable and stars Idris Elba and John Cena.

50. Deep Cover (Prime)

51. Red, White, and Royal Blue (Prime)
I'm so glad I never read this book because it is ridiculous, but very fun as a movie.

52. Fantastic Four: First Steps (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)

53. The Naked Gun [1988] (Hoopla)

54. The Naked Gun [2025] (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)

55. Freaky Friday (Disney+)
We re-watched this in prep for the sequel - it was better than I remember!

56. Freakier Friday (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
This sequel was better than it had any right to be! I genuinely enjoyed it, and even cried twice.

57. The Pickup (Prime)
This was a clever heist film and quite an enjoyable watch!

58. War of the Worlds (Prime)
We picked this one randomly on a Sunday evening, and it was one of those movies where the whole thing is from the perspective of the computer screen. It had potential but did not live up to it.

59. Weapons (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
This was scarier than I expected, but the story was really intruiging and told well!

60. Materialists (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
More rom-dram than rom-com, I very much enjoyed this film that had Dakota Johnson choosing between Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. Tough choice!

61. The Legend of Ochi (Max)
We missed this one in theaters but it came out on streaming quickly. In the end I'm glad we watched it at home because I found it rather dull and was glad I had my phone to distract me.

62. Nobody
We re-watched this in prep for the sequel - I forgot how much I loved it! We both agreed it's a slightly better John Wick.

63. Nobody 2 (Cineworld Unlimited)
This was ridiculous and over the top, exactly what I expected and wanted. Perfect with a bucket of popcorn.

64. The Thursday Murder Club (Netflix)
I haven't read the book but absolutely loved this film! A stellar cast, beautiful British scenery, a mystery to solve, everything I love in a good whodunnit.

65. A Minecraft Movie (Max)
We skipped this one in theaters so Joel finally talked me into watching it at home. He enjoyed it but I could have done without it!

66. The Wrong Paris (Netflix)
This was a perfectly fun rom-com!

67. The Roses (Cineworld)
I went into this one with low expectations, but it was better than I expected. Not the greatest, but made me laugh a few times and had great actors in it.

68. K-Pop Demon Hunters (Netflix)
Everyone seems to be raving about this one so we had to get in on the action! It was actually quite fun, would watch again.

69. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
As I told friends in a group chat after the movie, it was enjoyable nonsense! Just what I wanted!

70. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
Perhaps a bit heavy handed with the messaging, but a lovely story nonetheless, and well-acted by Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

71. The Long Walk (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
This is a book turned into a movie that probably should have just stayed a book.

72. Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 (Disney+)
I love kicking off spooky season with a Hocus Pocus double feature!

73. Twilight - The Whole Series
For our spooky season focus this year we decided to rewatch the whole Twilight series. It was fun and they held up pretty well!

74. Tron (Disney+)
I had never seen the original, so we watched it in preparation for the new one coming out in cinemas.

75. Tron: Legacy (Disney+)

76. Tron: Ares (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
This was a pretty good installation to the franchise, and they were clearly setting up for another one.

77. Catch Me If You Can
This was a rewatch for us both, and it was even better than I remembered!

78. Good Fortune (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
We barely got in to see this one before it left theaters, but I'm so glad we did. It was both hilarious and a sharp critique on wealth disparity. Kudos to Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari, and Keanu Reeves for this excellent film.

79. Final Destination: Bloodlines (Max)
We skipped this one in theatres but it was good background watching on Halloween night while I popped up and down to answer the door for trick or treaters!

80. The Watchers (Max)
I fell asleep during this one, it was soooo slooooow.

81. The Woman in Cabin 10 (Netflix)
This had quite a few departures from the novel by the same name, but the film starring Keira Knightley was still an entertaining watch.

82. Predator: Badlands (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
If you're a fan of Predator, you'll enjoy this one, too! It was an entertaining popcorn film.

83. A Ghost Story
Joel won a bet and got to choose six movies from A24, his favourite production company. Their movies are very hit or miss for me - I either love them or hate them! This was a hate for us both and we didn't bother finishing it.

84. In Fabric
Another A24 film, we stuc this one out but it was long and boring and weird and I hated it.

85. The Eternal Daughter
Another A24 film, we didn't even make it 10 minutes into this one!

86. Now You See Me, Now You Don't (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
The films in this series take a lot of suspension of disbelief, but they are fun and entertaining, and we always enjoy Rosamund Pike!

87. The Running Man (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
This one was alright for a popcorn action film. Joel said it wasn't as good as the original. I just kept being distracted by these characters being stupid enough to have a baby in this deeply terrible world. I didn't feel sorry for them as much as I felt they were cruel and selfish for having a child!

88. Love Lies Bleeding
Joel really enjoyed this A24 film, but it was a complete miss for me. Dull and weird.

89. Christmas Karma (Cineworld Unlimited Passes)
If you want to watch a modern movie musical take on A Christmas Carol, you're far better off watching Spirited. This one did not have enough heart, the music was mid, and it is not destined to become a Christmas classic.

90. Wicked Double Feature
I was so excited to book tickets to the Wicked Double Feature - and we even splurged on the special light-up popcorn bucket and double drink holder! After a year long wait for the second half of the musical...it wasn't quite as good as I was hoping for, and not as good as the first half. I still enjoyed it, though, and I'm hoping to see it a second time with Amy.

91. Love Hurts (Prime)
I've been wanting to see this one ever since we missed it in theaters last year, and it was worth the wait! Gotta love a Valentine's Day themed action movie.

92. Play Date (Prime)
This wacky buddy crime film with the guy from the new Jack Reacher and Kevin whats his face was dumb but entertaining.

93. Love Hard (Netflix)
We kicked-off our at-home Christmas movie viewing with our favourite Christmas rom-com!

94. Champagne Problems (Netflix)

95. Jingle Bell Heist (Netflix)

96. A Merry Little Ex-mas (Netflix)

97. Christmas Under the Northern Lights (Netflix)

98. Oh. What. Fun (Prime)
We did not care for this one, it will definitely not be a new classic. It had potential, but just felt really forced!

99. My Secret Santa (Netflix)
This was silly but a fun enough watch.

100. Write Before Christmas (Max)

101. Merv (Prime)

102. Christmas on the Farm (Hoopla)

103. A House of Dynamite (Netflix)

104. Ella McCay (Cineworld)

105. Fackham Hall (Cineworld)
This was billed as the British Naked Gun and it was just like that mixed with Downton Abbey. That's usually not my kind of humour, but I loved it!

106. Joy to the World (Disney+)

107. No Sleep 'Til Christmas (Disney+)

108. Drive Away Dolls (Netflix)

109. Anaconda (Netflix)

110. Game Night

111. Yesterday
We ended the year by rewatching a few favourites!

Series:

1. Arcane [Season 2] (Netflix)
I did not enjoy this season as much as the first one...there were so many side characters and side stories that I was getting very lost at times. Thankfully we had Jacob with us to help explain things when we kept getting confused.

2. What If...? [Season 3] (Disney+)
They could keep making this show forever and I will keep watching it! I absolutely love seeing the Marvel characters I know and love in these random situations and alternate timelines.

3. Taskmaster [All 18 seasons] (Channel4)
We've been watching this since some time last year as obviously it took us a long time to get through 18 seasons. I absolutely adore this show, I think I would go as far as saying it's my favourite British reality TV show. If you want to start somewhere random with it, I highly recommend season 7!

4. Missing You [Limited Series] (Netflix)
This limited series based on a novel was a bit drawn out but enjoyable enough. It was a good show to watch while I was traveling.

5. Silo [Season 2] (Apple TV)
Season 2 finally got us to the end of book 1 in the trilogy, I am excited to watch the next season! They deviated from the book somewhat, but still kept fairly true to the story I felt.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar [Limited series] (Netflix)
I feel like this could have been a 2.5 hour movies instead of a 6 hour limited series. It also told the story by jumping around the timelines in a lot of completely unnecessary ways. The story was mildly interesting but could have been written so much better. The only thing that really kept us watching was Kaitlyn Dever's incredible acting!

7. Black Doves (Netflix)
We got so into this Kiera Knightly spy drama that we binged the whole thing in one very unproductive day!

8. White Lies (Channel 4)
We started this mini-series because we liked the lead actress but it dragged on longer than it needed to. We skipped like 3 episodes in the middle to watch the finale and weirdly, it didn't feel like we had missed anything. Skip it!

9. Taskmaster: New Zealand
The host for this one cannot hold a candle to Greg Davies. Jeremy is clearly a presenter/newscaster type when this calls for a comedian. But his sidekick is brilliant and I like the tasks somewhat better on this one! Send whoever writes the tasks for this show to do the UK version and you'll have a real winner.

10. Labyrinth (Prime)
This was a 2 part series that probably should have been a movie but has some great actors in it. It didn't quite live up to the potential of where the story could have gone.

11. Reacher [Season 3] (Prime)
Somehow this show keeps getting better and better! I highly recommend watching all 3 seasons.

12. Love is Blind [Season 8] (Netflix)
I will never not watch every episode of this show they ever make, lol. It was a bit bland this time but I actually enjoyed that for the most part there was not much manufactured drama, and a lot less drinking and getting wasted. Go Midwest!

13. High Potential (Disney+)
This crime procedural gave me Castle vibes, except this time the consultant is a high-IQ single mom paired with the reluctant loner detective. I loved every minute of it and I hope they make more!

14. Adolescence (Netflix)
We watched this 4-part series because everyone was talking about it being really disturbing. The cinematography was incredible with everything being done in one take, and the acting was top notch as well. But the story dragged a bit and could have been shorter I think.

15. Nobody Wants This (Netflix)
This has been the highlight of getting our Netflix subscription back (temporarily.) It is THE BEST ROM-COM series I have ever seen. All my friends were raving about it and I see why. Healthy communication, chemistry, real world problems and not silly drama - so, so, so freaking good! I want like 10 more seasons.

16. With Love, Megan (Netflix)
I have mixed feelings about the Duchess of Sussex, mostly stemming from her leaving the UK in a huff right when I was desperately trying to move there. I watched all of this and found it a bit dull, but it made good background entertainment while I was cooking, doing laundry, etc.

17. Sort Your Life Out in 7 Days (BBC)
This might be favorite home-related show ever - it's part makeover, part clutter clearing, part organisation tips, and all fun! The team of 4 help people who are overwhelmed by clutter by taking literally everything out of their house and laying it out in a huge warehouse. They then have 2 days to go through and try to get rid of at least 50% of their belongings. Then the team helps them organise and put everything back in the house, with huge help from Rob who builds amazing custom storage solutions. It is so, so good. The only thing I don't like about it is that each season only has like 6 episodes! More please!

18. Queer Eye (Netflix)
I had 2 seasons to catch up on, including the newest season with Jeremiah replacing Bobby. I loved Bobby but boy do I love Jeremiah as well! I love that they seem to be giving him more of a role interacting with people on the show rather than just doing all his work behind the scenes (not sure if that was Bobby's choice or not, but he often wasn't around except at the very beginning and very end!)

19. The Residence (Netflix)
A fun murder mystery. It was a bit heavy on "the greatest detective in the world" trope (which Joel dislikes so I watched it without him.) It's not one I would have sat down and watched, but it was enjoyable to have one while I made dinner, did laundry, etc.

20. Black Mirror [Season 7] (Netflix)
This is one of the best seasons yet! Especially that last episode, chef's kiss.

21. You [Season 5] (Netflix)
I enjoyed this final season and it all coming to a satisfying conclusion!

22. Supernatural [Season 1] (Netflix)
I watched through about season 8 or 9 years ago, but it finally finished with a grand total of 15 seasons. We are enjoying it so far, we'll see how many seasons we get through before Joel finds a reason to give up on it!

23. Daredevil: Reborn (Disney+)
I couldn't get through the original Daredevil series (too violent for me) but I did enjoy this one for the most part.

24. Sex and the City (Netflix)
I still own my DVD collection of this show, but I rewatched it all before we let our Netflix subscription lapse.

25. And Just Like That [Season 3]
I love to hate this show and I'm sad it's ending after this season.

26. Taskmaster [Season 19] (Channel4)
For the first time, we watched this season as it was airing. It was an exceptionally good one!

27. Iron Heart (Disney+) DNF
It is rare that we don't finish something we start, especially something in the Marvel universe! But this was just not good and we could not get past episode 3.

28. The Rookie (Netflix Canada) [Season 1]
I love Nathan Fillion, so I've been wanting to watch this since it came out. Joel made it through season 1 and then it got too preposterous for him. I will finish watching it on my own sometime!

29. Wednesday (Netflix) [Season 2]
This season was just as delightful as the first one! A perfect way to kick off spooky season viewing.

30. Downton Abbey (Netflix) [All 6 seasons - rewatch]
I didn't quite get my re-watch done before the new movie, but it was fun to watch it all again. It was good background every time I was cooking or doing laundry or other things around the house!

31. Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) [Animated Series, all 3 seasons - rewatch]
We first watched this show during lockdown and loved it. Now that MtG is releasing a set of Avatar cards, we decided to rewatch it all. Still good!

32. Wayward (Netflix) [Limited Series]
This limited series staring Mae Martin (and written by Mae!) and Toni Collette was intriguing and creepy and overall very good.

33. Love is Blind (Netflix) [Season 9]
This season was particularly messy and botox filled, but I always love/hate it!

34. New Girl (Disney+) [All Seasons - rewatch]
Joel watched with me through the start of season 4, and it really does start to go downhill after that. I remember loving this show and it has its good moments, but perhaps I've matured beyond relating to it anymore.

35. Schitt's Creek (Disney+) [All Seasons - rewatch]
This show stays just as good every time I watch it! The characters develop beautifully and I'm always happy crying at the end.

36. Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) [Live Action - Season 1]
The acting wasn't superb, but the costumes and the fight choreography were incredible. They mushed together a lot of story lines to do it in fewer episodes, and the animated series is definitely the better of the two, but if you want more in this universe, it's worth a watch.

37. A Man on the Inside (Netflix)
The first season of this was pitch perfect - heartwarming, hilarious, tugged at the heartsrings, good acting, fun mystery, it was everything I love about a show. The second season is unbearable and we quite after episode 2.

38. Mistletoe Murders (Hallmark Channel)
This series combined two of my favourite genres - cheesy Christmas movies and murder mysteries! It was absolutely everything I wanted it to be. Each "season" was really two 45-minute episodes so it was really more like movies that were broken up for TV, but they were all peak entertainment.

39. The Good Place (Netflix) [Re-watch]

40. Emily in Paris (Netflix) [Season 5]
This show is dumb but I love it!

Other:

1. SNL 50th Anniversary
SNL is always hit or miss for me, sometimes it is the funniest thing I've ever seen and other times it makes me cringe so hard I'm literally physically uncomfortable watching it. There was a bit of cringing at this special episode, particularly when they revived some past skits that should have stayed in the past.

2. Escape to the Country - Monmouth episode
I heard from friends that an episode of this show was filmed in Monmouth so we watched it and that was fun. Though I thought it was weird that while they featured the town, they didn't actually look at any houses in Monmouth!

3. James Acaster: Repetoire  (Netflix)
This turned out to be a 4-part comedy special from James Acaster, one of our favourite Taskmaster contestants. It is well worth a watch!
