Niagara Falls: Day 4

Submitted by Bethany on Sun, 06/30/2024 - 13:00

When day four dawned in Niagara Falls, we were all pretty tired. It was the last day to try and do everything on our passes and we still had a lot to go. As part of our passes, we had a free shuttle ride to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a nearby scenic town. I really wanted to go but I knew I needed to give myself a break, Joel was feeling “peopled out,” so we decided to have a chill morning at the hotel while Steve checked out the town. He enjoyed it!

By afternoon Joel and I were ready to go out so we all went to the Power Station and Tunnel. You take an elevator 180 feet down, then walk 2,200 feet through a 115+ year-old tunnel. The temperature down there stays at about 60F (15C) year-round.

At the end of the tunnel you get to an amazing view of the falls! (I know I’ve said that about every view, lol.)

Once we were back on the surface we took a long walk home along the falls. The sun came out and we were finally able to get some shots of the classic rainbow in the falls! I cannot express in words how amazing it was to see this.

I took dozens of photos of this but I’ll share just one of my favorites!

That night we had dinner reservations at the Skylon Tower. I had just been there with my family but it was so fantastic I knew I wanted to go with Joel and Steve as well. The tower has a rotating restaurant on the top and any time I have a chance to go to something like that from now on, I will! Say it with me again, the view was incredible!

We had a much later dinner than usual for us (8:00) so that we could catch the sunset and then stay for the lights and the fireworks. After we ate we headed up to the viewing platform and I was delighted to get some good pictures of the falls lit up with rainbow lights.

I thought that was pretty magical, but then the fireworks started! They were amazing to view from our room, but even better from way up here.

But wait, there’s more! After leaving the tower we headed back to Clifton Hill (the carnival area) and splurged on loaded funnel cake for dessert. This thing was massive and covered in ice cream, Skor bits, hot fudge and caramel sauce. The three of us tackled this together and still couldn’t finish it!

Then it was time for something I had been looking forward to all week - Dinosaur Adventure Golf! We could see this place from our hotel room and it looked like so much fun - and it was! There were amazing dinosaur statues everywhere.

There were smoke machines and sound effects and the course was really well designed. If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for mini golf!

By the time we were done golfing, it was past midnight and we were officially exhausted. We went back to our fantastic hotel for the last night.

Overall our trip to Niagara Falls was amazing and my only complaint is that I wish we had spent more time there! I had no idea how much there really is to do not just with the falls themselves but in the surrounding town. It is easily a place to stay and enjoy for a week (though it does get much pricier on the weekends.)

There is so much of the world that I want to see that usually Joel and I are “one and done” with a place - once we’ve been there we don’t feel the need to go back. But we have both agreed that if we get the chance, we will return to Niagara Falls!

XOXO, Bethany
