Remakes are tough. You really want to try and discover something new to bring to whatever you're remaking. When it comes to movies, it could be a change of gender, or a change in the language, or even a change in the ending. Sometimes, they change the whole movie and just keep the concept, so it's really not so much a remake, but a re-imagining. When Love Actually came out, people loved the concept of a bunch of seemingly unrelated characters that we eventually discover are related somehow. And then we kept getting movie after movie in the same vein. The novelty has really worn off by now and movies that use this schtick don't do nearly as well at the box office. But that apparently hasn't stopped Netflix from trying again! But this time with teens!
Let It Snow follows several characters in the same town that are struggling with their myriad of relationships. Usually they're romantic, but sometimes they are friends or family, but they all feature teens. That's really all you need to know.
The acting is decent, the stories are kinda cute, but 'predictable' is an understatement. With the quality of the cast, this really could have been a great movie. Instead, we have a timid story with no guts and no heart. I mean, it's not terrible, but they really just phoned in the story. It's really disappointing, honestly, cuz there's a ton of great young actors, with Isabella Merced one of my favorites. So, if you enjoyed all the other remakes of Love Actually, you'll definitely enjoy this one. But if you found them to be tired and lacking originality, you'll likely feel the same here.
