Just the title of this movie had me pretty sure that I was going to love it. After all, I love snow. So a whole movie centered around the magic and beauty of snow? Yes, please! Especially since we are currently melting in the 100+ degree Australian weather, I needed some sparkly cold if only on my TV screen.
Let It Snow is a Netflix Original that follows in the footsteps of the Christmas classic Love Actually. The story follows a variety of characters who have a few things in common - they are teenagers, they live in the same small town, and the snow is about to affect their lives. The movie has everything you want in a good holiday film - heartwarming moments, beautiful decorations, and lots and lots (and lots!) of snow. The stories that weave together are compelling enough, if a bit predictable.
For a Netflix teen comedy/romance the level of acting skill was pretty good in this one. I particularly enjoyed Jacob Batalon (also known as Spider-Man's BFF), Kiernan Shipka (aka the new iteration of Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and my absolute favorite was Isabela Merced (from Instant Family and the live-action Dora the Explorer movie.) Merced is a national treasure and she has made my list of actors I will watch in anything they do!
Overall the movie gave me the feeling of putting on an old, familiar, cozy sweater. You know just what to expect from it and you get exactly what you expect. Just like that sweater, this is one I'll return to again and again.
