Full disclosure - this is not my kind of movie, and I knew that going in. I don't remember much about the first Sicario, other than I did not care for it (despite it starring Emily Blunt, one of my favorites!). The fact that Emily Blunt is not in this one meant it didn't even have that saving grace for me. But just for all of you fans and readers I went to see this one anyway!
The story places us once again in the midst of the drug war at the US Mexico border. The president has decided to classify drug cartels as terrorist organizations, which gives law enforcement more leeway in combating these organizations. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro team up once again, this time doing some underhanded things to get the cartels into a war with each other. When a young girl gets involved things go off the rails.
This movie is dark, violent, bloody, and, in my opinion, booooring. I wasn't drawn in by any of the action, I didn't care about any of the characters and I didn't really enjoy any of it. There was no humor to lighten up any bit of it. During some gorier scenes I entertained myself by staring down at my hands and brainstorming about how to pack my suitcase for our upcoming adventure. I decided where the shoes should go so that's a plus I suppose!
Anyway, just because it's not my cup of tea doesn't mean it won't be yours. If you like dark, violent tales of the drug war, this one's for you. If not, do yourself a favor and just stay home.
