I love Paul Rudd. However, in the pantheon of Marvel superheroes, Ant-Man is low on my list of favorites. I don't dislike him, he's just not as good as Captain America or Thor or Iron Man. Or Peter Quill for that matter. Anyhow, I was still excited for this movie as I'm a sucker for anything superheroes.
Ant-Man and the Wasp picks up nearly two years after Captain America: Civil War, and just before the events of Infinity War. Scott Lang is nearing the end of his two year house arrest sentence, and hasn't had any contact with Hank Pim (creator the suit) or Hope Van Dyne (Hank's daughter who trained Scott). Just days before his house arrest is up, he receives a message from the quantum realm and when Hank and Hope realize who it is from, they contact him in hopes that he can help rescue Janet Van Dyne (Hank's wife, Hope's mother) from the quantum realm where she was lost some thirty years ago. The adventure ensues, with multiple "bad guy" obstacles, though not really a true "villain" per se.
The story line was fairly good, though it felt rather low stakes after recent Infinity War viewing. It was a bit convoluted but pretty easy to follow. The acting was great, and the humor sprinkled throughout was excellent. My favorite performance was probably from Michael Pena as Lang's ex-con friend and business partner Luis.
If you have seen every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe you know you aren't going to miss this one, so go see it! If you haven't seen anything yet (what are you waiting for?) it could still be fun viewing. You don't have to have seen the original Ant-Man but it would help. Overall it's another great installment in the MCU!
