Joel has been excited about this movie for a while, and when he realized it was out but not in our theater he suggested we make a road trip to Des Moines to see it. I made him show me a preview to see if it was worth it, and about 30 seconds in I was on board. I didn't even watch the whole preview but I was hooked so we hit the road!
Let me tell you, the 3 hour round trip was worth every minute. We follow the life of Grey Trace, who lives in a near future world where automated technology (self driving cars!) and technology fused with human biology is beginning to become commonplace. The movie is worth seeing for this futuristic setting alone. The story of love and loss, violence and revenge sucks you in and the futuristic elements make it stand out from similar revenge fantasy movies.
The violence does get somewhat gory, there were scenes that made me audibly gasp and had me covering my eyes, so be warned if you don't like that kind of thing. However, even if you don't like gore (like me) the movie is still worth seeing. I hope this gets a wider release soon, because it deserves to be seen by many more people!
