The previews for this movie did not give us much to go on - to their credit. I love a preview that makes you intrigued but doesn't give away the premise or point of the movie. I was excited for this one because in general Charlize Theron makes excellent movies.
Tully follows the story of Marlo (Charlize Theron), a mother who is pregnant with her third child. The movie does a good job of showing the exhaustion that comes with having three children and a mostly detached husband. She is saved somewhat by a night nurse named Tully who comes to take over child care, household cleaning, cupcake making and more while Marlo gets some much needed sleep. I can't decide if this movie made me never want to have kids (boy does it look exhausting) or made me want to have kids (boy does it look rewarding). Overall it felt like a realistic look at modern parenthood and the pitfalls and joys that come with it.
If you are a parent, or thinking of being a parent, or were ever the child of a parent, I recommend this movie. It is equal parts heartwarming, hilarious and heart wrenching. Overall one of the best movies I have seen of late.
