I like movies that risk things, but not every movie has to be completely original to be good. This movie had a lot of cliche and is a retelling of the play Cyrano de Bergerac (which has been made into movies several times, including Roxanne and The Truth about Cats and Dogs). This is a modern retelling that updates the tools used, which made it a whole lot easier. With all the talk about 'catfishing', this is like the 'nice version' of it. Even though it's not original, it's a pretty darn good movie. It gave me some good feels and broke some rules of typical high school movies.

Sierra Burgess Is A Loser tells the story of Sierra Burgess, an overweight girl struggling to survive high school when she is texted by a guy that's too amazing to be believed. He thinks she's someone else (the head cheerleader), but she's so smitten that she can't give up on him. She convinces the head cheerleader to help her out and they work together to make him think it's a brainy personality with the looks of a cheerleader.

The acting is great and the characters are pretty darn good, too. Yeah, there are a lot of overused tropes, but the movie is still charming and sweet. If you like a good cheesy teen romance with some contrivances, but some pretty good characters, then this movie is for you! I did like the movie, but there were just too many things that stop it from being great. Most people will be able to overlook these minor issues, though, so I'm betting most will enjoy it!
