I like the Ocean's series of movies. They're cool and have a plan and are very good at what they do. Ocean's 8 is similar, but with some differences that just make the movie less enjoyable, sadly. The plot makes less sense, the character's motivations are less clear, and the plan isn't as good. Still, if you liked the originals, you'll probably like this as well, just less so.
Ocean's 8 tells the story of 8 ladies trying to pull off a jewel heist at The Met Gala. It's an ensemble cast with lots of cameos. The movie starts with Debbie Ocean getting out of prison. She gets a gang together to pull a heist, so there are the 'interviews' and the character introductions. They pick the best and put the plan into motion! It's a pretty run-of-the-mill concept and there is really nothing new here. There are some decent performances, which brings the movie up some. But there are some problems that I have that keep it from really being good.
First, they're ripping off a museum. In the other movies, it's usually like another thief or a casino. Museums are much more sympathetic, in my opinion. They convince Cartier to loan their prized possession to steal, but even then, you kinda feel bad for them. The real thing that lowers it for me is that the plan doesn't really make sense. I can't go into it without spoilers, but I'll just say that Debbie should be going back to prison. Still, if you can suspend your disbelief a little more than normal, it's a bunch of cool people doing their thing, which was pretty fun to watch. Not great, but ok. It's definitely not a 'need-to-see' movie.
