The Mountain Between Us Lacks Chemistry Between Them

Here we have a pretty good story with darn good actors with something missing.  I could feel the struggle for survival, I could feel their desperation, but I couldn't feel their attraction.

Mountain Between Us is a story of survival love.  A charter plan crashes in the mountains with two attractive survivors.  It soon becomes obvious that they will not be rescued, and they must take their lives into their own hands.  As their desperation mounts, they come to grips with the reality that they will probably die.  The movie is really a character study of these two extraordinary individuals. One is a neurosurgeon, the other a photojournalist; both top in their fields.  With some ingenuity, some luck, and a lot intestinal fortitude they might make it through...oh and they fall in love.

I am sure the plan was to have them fall in love the entire time, but boy does it seem like they added it in at the last minute.  It felt like one of those stories of a producer calling to make a last minute change - "Why don't they fall in love?"  A couple reshoots, a little editing...poof!  Love story!  This could have been a great movie had they taken the romance out of it.  They could have shared a bond that few people ever experience.  Alternatively, this could have been a great movie if I could have felt their love grow and blossom.  Instead, it feels out of place.  Still the performances of Elba and Winslet make the movie worth the watch.
