Not gonna lie, I have been looking forward to this movie ever since I saw the first preview for it.  I know people rag on Hollywood for remaking classics, but I love that this was not just a remake - but an update, a Jumangi for the 21st century.  I remember seeing the original Jumangi when I was a kid, and it scared the pants off me.  I was excited to see that the previews for this one looked less scary and more exciting.

We start by meeting our four main characters - Spencer, Fridge, Bethany (hey that's me!), and Martha; aka the nerd, the jock, the hot girl (hey that's me!), and the shy girl. They all end up in detention together, and try to escape the boredom of their punishment through the video game discovered in the school basement.  They immediately get sucked into the game and the excitement, and hilarity, begins. Now we find the nerd played by the Rock, the jock played by Kevin Hart, the hot girl played by Jack Black, and the shy girl played by Karen Gillan.

These actors shine in these roles, playing against type and doing so superbly.  For me, the most enjoyable part of the movies was watching each of them as a teenager trapped in their bodies.  It. Was. Hilarious. The overall plot of the movie was pretty well done, exciting, and well paced.  There was not a single moment that I felt dragged or could have been cut. Honestly I look forward to watching it again at some point which is not something I say about very many movies.
