The second this movie popped up on my Netflix suggested movies we began downloading it and watched it the next day. All I can say is, Netflix, why did you wait so long to suggest it to me? This is 100% my kind of movie and I love Rebel Wilson, so I was pretty sure this was going to be a winner.
And it was! Seriously, this movie is awesome. The main character is Natalie (Rebel Wilson) an architect who lets herself be walked all over at work and thinks romantic comedies are "lies set to pop music". When she gets a head injury she finds herself trapped in the world of romantic comedies and has to figure out how to get herself out of it - by getting the right guy to fall in love with her, obviously!
This movie plays on all of those romantic comedy tropes we know and love and hate all at the same time. It is brilliantly written, well acted, and I found myself literally laughing out loud about every other minute. I think this movie will hold up well to multiple watches because they are so many details even in the background that are hilarious (watch for a flock of birds flying in the shape of a heart, seriously.)
Whether you love or hate romantic comedies, this movie is for you. If you love them, you'll love the way this movie pays homage to them; if you hate them, you'll love the way this movie mercilessly mocks them. I don't think it is too high of praise to say it's one of the best movies I've seen this year, and everyone needs to go watch this movie!
