Joel claims we saw previews for this movie, but I do not recall any, so I went into this movie with a completely blank slate, not having any expectations.  Other than, because it's Amy Schumer, I expected it to be funny.  The movie did not disappoint in that regard - I laughed, I cried, I laughed until I cried.  This is tooootally my kind of movie though, so I understand that others probably won't love it as much as I did.

The story follows Renee Bennett, an average girl with big dreams, who feels held back by her lack of conventional beauty.  She places a high value on looks and lacks almost any self confidence.  When she makes a wish for her body to change - for her to be incredibly beautiful - something happens!  But not what you expect.  For a second I thought it was going to be a body-switching movie, but instead it was more of an attitude switching one.  Nothing changed about Renee except the way she saw herself - she believed she was a gorgeous thin runway model type, and started to act with all the confidence and charisma that brought her.

What follows is hilarious at times, and meaningful at others.  As someone who has long struggled with my own body image, I resonated with the character Amy played.  I've often wondered what it would be like to wake up and be as beautiful as I've always wanted to be - but this made me think, what if I woke up and just acted as if I was already there?  How would life change for me?  For Renee, life changed in good ways and in bad, and then when the "spell" wore off, things changed again.  I felt her responses and reactions were pretty realistic and genuine, and the end message of all of us needing to love ourselves just as we are made me cry, even if it was a tad cliche and predictable.

All in all if you enjoy Amy Schumer, rom-coms, and somewhat silly movies, I encourage you to go see this one!
