Netflix kept suggesting this movie to me, and I finally could not resist what looked like a good chick flick. The movie was made in Spanish, and we watched the first twenty minutes or so with the dubbing in English. Do not make that mistake! It was much better once we switched to the original Spanish audio with English subtitles.
The story follows Maria Fe, a feisty red-head with a lackluster job in advertising and a long term boyfriend who moved to Madrid. When he breaks up with her over Skype, she must learn how to move on from that relationship and with her life. She starts a blog about being single and, to her surprise, it takes off!
The story was cute, if slightly predictable, and so very relatable if you've ever been a heartbroken twenty-something. The characters that surround Maria are also quite enjoyable including her workaholic best friend, womanizing co-worker, and new quirky roommate. The acting was really quite good for this kind of movie.
Whether you are currently nursing a heartache or hope that part of your life is set firmly in your past, I think you will enjoy this movie. It's a cute, fun romp about a girl finding herself, with plenty of laughs thrown in along the way! You could do a lot worse when it comes to chick flicks.
