Holiday in the Wild - Not Wildly Different, But Entertaining

Well folks, 'tis the season! And I'm not talking about decking the halls, drinking eggnog, or decorating Christmas trees - 'tis the season for all of the cheesy, predictable, totally trite holiday movies. I, for one, am here for it. Every. year. We don't have access to the Hallmark channel (cry emoji) but luckily Netflix is trying to fill the void with some original holiday romps of their own.

First up for us this year - Holiday in the Wild! This tale of a fresh divorcee heading off on safari in Africa stars Kristin Davis (aka Charlotte from Sex and the City) and Rob Lowe (aka Chris from Parks and Rec and about a million other roles.) Now, let's be clear. This movie is not groundbreaking in any way. The entire storyline is predictable from start to finish - there is nothing that you don't see coming from miles away. It also has a tinge of rich white savior-ness to it which is a bit tone-deaf and annoying, but forgivable I suppose.

That said, for a cheesy holiday movie, it had surprisingly good acting. They must have had a pretty healthy budget for it as the animals look very realistic and I'm pretty sure they weren't always interacting with real ones. The overall message of returning to one's roots and finding yourself is a pretty decent one. And of course, there is love and Christmas and lights and music and everything about these movies that makes me happy.

If you love cheesy holiday movies as much as I do this one should make your to-watch list for this year! If you only like the good ones (I realize good is a relative term when it comes to these kinds of movies) then this one fits the bill. Even if you're a bit of a grinch, give this one a shot, it might just warm up your heart a bit!
