It's no secret I don't care much for scary movies.  I get scared soooo easily they are just really hard for me to watch.  So I struggled with rating this one, because while I can appreciate it's a good scary movie and deserves a higher rating, I didn't exactly enjoy the experience of watching it so it leans lower for me.  To add insult to injury, Joel was out of town so I not only had to go see it without him (but with my awesome friend Sara!) I then had to go home and sleep all alone in our house!  Eek!  I survived the night but I only got about 5 hours of sleep, with all the lights on.

Hereditary follows the story of miniature artist Annie coping with grief and life after her mother, with whom she had a difficult relationship, passes away.  She slowly begins to learn more about her mother's life and the implications that has for Annie and her own children.  I don't want to give any of the story away, but suffice it to say I. was. TERRIFIED.  Even just writing about it now is giving me flashbacks and shivers.

The acting in this movie was fantastic.  I love Toni Collette and will watch her in anything, and she killed it in this role.  Alex Wolff as her son was also excellent, and newcomer to film Milly Shapiro played the daughter and she was creepy as all get out.  The superb acting just made it that much harder to get through, it felt so dang real!

All in all if you like scary movies, you will enjoy this one.  If you don't like scary movies, well, maybe skip this one.  But maybe google the spoilers so you get the gist of the story, it's a good one!
