I wanted to like Geostorm, I really did.  Sometimes a high stakes disaster film is just what I'm in the mood for and I was ready for one the night we went to see this.  Instead...Joel and I got to experience a first together - our first time walking out of a movie before the end!  It really was that bad.  It probably didn't help that we went to a 9:00ish movie and we usually go to bed around 10.  At some point the movie just wasn't worth sacrificing the sleep we could be having.

The concept of the movie was interesting to me, but it was played out so horribly.  During all of the human moments rife with unnecessary tension I kept hearing the cinema sins guy in my head saying "manufactured drama is manufactured".  The fate of the world was at stake, there was high level corruption in the world's governments, did we really need a petty drama between the two brothers?  So many moments felt fake, and scenes that were supposed to have me on the edge of my seat instead had me rolling my eyes.

Also, this is a super petty complaint but the guy who played Gerard Butler's brother NEEDED A DANG HAIRCUT.  Like seriously, his hair was weirdly long in the back, it was an unprofessional look and just ugly.  I couldn't concentrate on any scene he was in because all I wanted to do was take a pair of scissors to his hair.  It was the worst.

In the end, if you're in the mood for a mindless action movie with great special effects where the fate of the world is at stake but not really...well, go watch something else.  Geostorm just really isn't worth your time.
