Forever My Girl is pretty much exactly what I expected - cheesy, over the top, it made me cry... and let's be honest, I kinda loved it. We open on the beautiful wedding day of Josie and Liam, watch things fall apart, and then fast forward to eight years later. Liam is a big country star, rolling in fame and money, but it's clear he's empty and a bit broken inside. When he sees on the news that an old friend has passed away, he returns to his hometown and the people he left behind.
Ultimately this is a story of redemption, as Liam learns about everything that has changed since he left, and lets himself be changed. It turns out Josie was pregnant, and he now has a seven year old daughter he never knew. Billie (named after his mother) is overly precocious and adorable, and played expertly by Abby Ryder Fortson. Josie and Liam dance around each other, old and new conflicts play out, but the end is rather predictable.
Honestly, I don't care. I don't think predictability is always bad in a movie. Sometimes it's nice to just watch the movie where everything turns out perfectly in the end and everyone is happy. Sure it could have had more depth, more realism, could have been a little more honest about how a story like this might play out in real life, but sometimes my sweet tooth just craves the sugar coated version. If you're in the mood for cheesy with a side of happy ending and a large helping of country music, this one's for you.
