Well I certainly never thought I'd see two train based murder mysteries within a few months of each other, yet here we are. Following on the heels of a classier, more refined train story, we have a rougher, more violent train story starring Liam Neeson as an out of work ex-police officer approached by a stranger for a mysterious mission.
The opening of the movie was very clever, showing in snippets the regular, work a day life of an average commuter. It was a creative way to show a boring part of life without being, well, boring. From there we see the start of a really bad day for Liam Neeson's character, he gets fired, he and his wife are already struggling financially, and he gets on the train to go home really dejected and depressed. Then he is approached by a strange woman who calls herself Joanna. She strikes up a conversation and proposes a "hypothetical" situation that soon turns out to be all too real.
I enjoyed the story for what it was, a fairly typical action movie with a few mystery solving elements, all set on a fast moving train. I think they did a good job with the set and exploring the advantages and limitations of such a setting. Liam Neeson was a pretty typical Liam Neeson character, no ground breaking acting here. If you're in the mood for a decent action flick this one should hit the spot!
