Training Camp Strategies

Training camps are where you'll get the vast majority of your heroes (unless you spend quite a bit of money on the game). Since they're so important, you'll want to use them efficiently.

Training camps start at level 1, like all buildings. As you level them up, you'll have access to new resources, BUT BE WARNED they're not all the same for usability! Here's a quick guide (note: 1s means One Star Hero, best levels in bold):

  1. Only 1s, but you'll still use this throughout most of the game. 1s are cheap feeders and very important. You need a Practice Sword to use it.
  2. 1s and 2s. One of the key levels. Get to this as soon as possible to get your 2s! You'll need Adventurer's Kit (looks like a backpack).
  3. Fast, but expensive 1s only. DON'T WASTE FOOD ON THIS EARLY ON! Don't research this until you're a bit higher level and have way too much food. Also uses practice swords. When you have an overabundance of food, this does become useful, but rarely used.
  4. 1s and 2s for cheap, but takes a long time. This is the most important Training Camp level until level 11! It doesn't need any materials, just food and recruits! So get to this and have one running pretty much all the time until you open up level 11, when you'll never use this again.
  5. Fire (red) only 1s and 2s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  6. Ice (blue) only 1s and 2s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  7. Nature (green) only 1s and 2s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  8. Dark (purple) only 1s and 2s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  9. Holy (yellow) only 1s and 2s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  10. 1s, 2s, or 3s. This is tempting because I know you want 3s, but my advice is do not research this. Why? It takes a full day to get ONE pull from this and chances are you'll only get 1s and 2s. After not very many pulls (and probably not getting a single 3s), you'll be ready for the better guaranteed 3s.
  11. 1s or 2s. This completely replaces level 4 and is one of the best levels ever. No materials, only 2 recruits, only 1000 food, and only 2 hrs. Better in every way compared to level 4. You should get a Training Camp here, start running it while you upgrade every other TC you have to 11. Run them all at 11 until you get more backpacks to run TC2. Plus, you can start 'banking' your recruits. Read the full quick guide here!
  12. Guaranteed 3s! But... I suggest skipping this one as well. Next level is your sweet spot, so just be patient, unless you have way too much food! It takes 2 days and in a few days you'll have level 13 which is also guaranteed 3s, but with a chance at a 4s. So skip this one for now. I KNOW! IT'S TEMPTING! And it's not the end of the world if you research it and get a few pulls going. But once you get TC13, you'll never, ever do 12 again.
  13. Guaranteed 3s with a (small) chance at a 4s! Now, 4s are pretty rare from here. Some go a LONG time before getting a 4s, so be ready for that. But still, you'll use this a lot until level 20 replaces it.
  14. Fire (red) only 1s, 2s, or 3s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  15. Ice (blue) only 1s, 2s, or 3s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  16. Nature (green) only 1s, 2s, or 3s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  17. Dark (purple) only 1s, 2s, or 3s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  18. Holy (yellow) only 1s, 2s, or 3s. NOT WORTH IT! I will never research this, personally.
  19. Extra fast 1s! These use materials not used on other good levels, so you should have many of them (thousands, even). It's a lot of food, but you'll use this pretty often.
  20. 3s, 4s, or 5s! You RARELY get 5s, but 4s come pretty often. Mostly 3s, though, but still! Round out your 3s for the 3s events. It's two days like TC13, so you'll never use that again. You'll probably be running at least one of these for the rest of the game.

Once you have TC11 and TC13, you can start 'banking' food and recruits (add lots to one or the other if you have excess resources).

For more information on what it take for resources for the Training Camp, visit the very good resource of the Empires and Puzzles Wiki. It's got some stuff we don't have here, but it's not as good as our tip repository. Well, in my opinion, at least!
