This was a very busy week, so here are the highlights…
Monday on the Grill with Matthew: BBQ Bacon Wrapped Chicken Grillers, potato salad with fresh dill, tomatoes from the garden, grapes and our chocolate chip-oatmeal-walnut-zucchini cookies for dessert.
Tuesday was International Cat Day for Miss Cali and our grand-cat Twist! (Actually, every day is cat day!)

Tuesday on the Grill with Matthew: He couldn’t resist these at Fareway… a bacon-wrapped jalapeno stuffed hot dog served with garden tomatoes, baked beans and potato salad.
My ‘gardener’ usually plants full size pumpkins, but could only find mini-pumpkin plants this year. The harvest has begun. Sitting next to my anniversary flowers from a week ago, they evoke a picture of what’s to come!
Wednesday in the Kitchen with Matthew: Pork tenderloin in the crockpot with zucchini-eggplant-cherry tomatoes (from the garden), potatoes and red onion drizzled with garlic olive oil, salt & pepper then roasted in the oven and garnished with freshly grated Romano cheese.
Friday (Thursday) Pieday: Pizza Ortolana (A classic Italian pizza meaning greengrocer’s pizza.)…A thin crispy crust topped with black garlic tomato sauce, grated Parmesan, mozzarella, grilled slices of eggplant & zucchini fresh from the garden, cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella then garnished with a drizzle of olive oil and fresh basil.
Highlights of our day on Friday at the Iowa State Fair… forgot to take pics of the sausage waffle on a stick & dill pickle cheese curds.
Saturday in the Kitchen with Matthew: A Cherry Tomato Pie…a homemade crust filled with cheddar, Mayo and garlic chives then topped with cherry tomatoes and garnished with a fresh basil chiffonade and a balsamic glaze.
On Saturday, as the news reports continue from Maui, Hawaii, the loss of life and history in Lahaina is heartbreaking. We attended the Lahaina United Methodist Church on June 17, 2018. All that’s left is the sign…and the spirit of the people as they are holding services on Sunday. Please pray for the people.
Sunday’s Creation: Prosciutto & Garlic White Pizza…a thin crispy crust topped with a sour cream + garlic sauce, Parmesan, mozzarella, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and fresh oregano then garnished with hot honey.
