If you've been around the blog or our Instagram for a while you've probably noticed that I used to celebrate Wear A Dress Tuesday every week. Which means you've probably also noticed that since last November I kinda, well, forgot about it. Things got busy and then we were on the road and <insert excuse here> I let it drop. But for 2019 I am bringing Wear A Dress Tuesday back!
So what is Wear A Dress Tuesday? I'm glad you asked! The history of WADT goes all the way back to the year 2009 (holy crap I just realized that's ten years ago already. I feel old.) I was in seminary and a friend of mine named Sarah came up with the idea, on a whim, that we should all start wearing dresses on Tuesdays. Her reasoning was three fold: 1. Tuesday is a boring day of the week, let's jazz it up. 2. We all had dresses on our closets we were never wearing, especially as busy (and poor) grad students. 3. There's just something about putting on a dress that makes you feel extra confident!
I was a bit skeptical at first but when a group of us started doing it, it turned out to be really fun! Each week would gather for a group picture somewhere on campus. I scoured Facebook and found the oldest WADT picture I could find - from March 24th, 2010. I'm on the left, and then you have Sara, Sarah, and Sarah (not even kidding). The furthest Sarah to the right is the one who invented WADT. You can see that even then I was a flats girl, I just hadn't found my beloved Tieks yet! (Actually I don't think they existed yet in 2010).
After we all graduated in the spring of 2010 we kind of tried to keep up with WADT here and there, but it mostly died out. (Fun fact: if you search the hashtag #wearadresstuesday on Instagram the oldest picture of a person you find is of the inventor Sarah in 2012. The rest are me.)
When I started selling LuLaRoe in the fall of 2016 I decided to bring Wear A Dress Tuesday back to life. It thrived in my private LLR group for a long time, with women sharing pictures of their dresses each week, and sharing stories of how it boosted their confidence and made them pull things out of their closet they hadn't touched in a long time!
For almost two years I kept up with WADT through rain and shine, cold and hot. Like the postal service and the mail, I wore a dress every Tuesday without fail. Seriously, even in the snow.
Now that we are living and traveling abroad my dress collection has dwindled (I left the states with 11, I'm down to 9, please don't ask me how many I had before we left.) That's still plenty, and it's still fun to throw on a dress and make a Tuesday feel special, even if the only reason I'm leaving the house that day is to walk the dog. (I know living abroad sounds really glamorous, but some days are just as boring as the ones back home.)
So for 2019, I would love to have you join me for Wear A Dress Tuesday! Pull those dresses out of your closet and give them some life! Don't like dresses? Skirts count too! Don't like either? No worries, just wear something on Tuesdays that makes you feel special, beautiful, and confident. This movement is all about helping us feel on the inside like the fabulous ladies we already are. However you participate I'd love to see it, so post on either Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #WearADressTuesday and I'll be able to find you!
