This weekend we moved from Cyprus to Germany so we are in a new house sit! This one is quite a bit different from our first one - we are taking care of a cat, chickens and a duck instead of one dog, and we are staying in a huge 100 year old house rather than a two bedroom apartment. Another noticeable difference - our new hosts do not own a scale!

Now I must admit, this makes me a bit nervous. In the past, times when I have not consistently weighed myself have usually coincided with times when my weight is slowly creeping up. I gain either because I don't notice since I'm not weighing in, or, more often, I didn't weigh in because I knew I was gaining and I didn't want to know just how bad it was. This time however, I want to be different. Just because I can't check myself on the scale doesn't mean I can't still lose weight, and doesn't mean I won't see results! I'll just have to notice different results - clothes fitting differently, my face looking thinner, etc. I am very pleased with the progress I made in Cyprus - 15 pounds gone in 6 weeks!

My plan is to keep the weight loss momentum going even without the scale to keep me in check. We took a break from intermittent fasting while we traveled and while we are with our guests - we prefer to eat when and what our hosts do. Once we are here on our own we will be back to intermittent fasting and focusing on fruits and veggies. Bonus - dairy is cheaper again, woot! And salsa and ground pork! I foresee a lot of taco salads in my future.

We no longer have a dog to force us on walks every day, but we are in an environment where I want to walk a lot more. The weather is cooler, not everything is uphill, and there is an adorable town to explore as well as a lake area and a forest! The grocery store is an easy 5 minute walk away, so I think we will make almost daily trips. I am excited for hiking in 60 degree weather rather than sweltering in the 80+ we had in Cyprus.

We are here until Sept 19th, and then we move to Wales. I am hoping that in Wales we will have access to a scale and be able to check in. If I am making the progress I plan/want to be making, my first weigh in Wales should have me at somewhere around 225-228. I am going to do everything I can to stay on that track, so I can keep moving towards my goal of 199 or less by NYE! It will be a challenge for me not to have the scale as a guide these next few weeks, but a good one, I think. We'll see how it goes!

XOXO, Bethany

Your thoughts?

I also find myself usually creeping up if I don't have a scale to check in with. Is there a tape measure? That might be an interesting way to track too. NSVs (non-scale victories) come in many forms.

I kind of wish we had started with measurements from the beginning because I think I've seen some big changes there even when the scale has been slow to move. I might see if I can get some taken soon, I do have a tape measure in my purse though it's one of the stiff ones not a fabric one better for measuring people. I'll definitely be watching for those NSVs during our time in Germany!
