Losing the Weight, Finding Myself: Week 30

Submitted by Bethany on Sun, 08/19/2018 - 10:00

Starting Weight: 266
Current Weight: 236.6
Weekly Change: -5.6
Total Change: -29.4
Goal Weight: 135
Pounds to lose until goal: 101.6

Yippee, another five pounds gone! I could really feel the weight disappearing this week. Every time we go out for a walk, whether it's with the dog or to the grocery store, it feels like every time is getting just a little bit easier. My clothes are definitely fitting differently and I'm pretty sure some of the items I brought with me aren't going to make it off the island. Shortly before we leave I plan to make a visit to one of the local charity shops (like a Goodwill) to give away some things that no longer fit, and pick up an item or two to help tide me over!

Now, I think I can safely say at this point I am no longer going to meet my Healthy Wage goal. It sucks to fail when I could have won almost $500! Plus I'm out the $20/month I bet on myself for six months, so $120 total. However, I don't see it as a total failure or waste of money. Let's be real, I have spent a lot of money over the years on attempting weight loss. I've done Weight Watchers off and on with varied success. I got hypnotized. I've tried supplements and fad diets and I've even considered having gastric sleeve surgery.

So if I think about it, I could have easily spent the $20 a month on some other way/motivation to lose weight, and may or may  not have been successful; and though I'm not hitting my weight loss goal to win the money back, I sure as heck have been motivated! Every time I'm too tired to walk or want to eat something crappy Joel just has to say "Healthy wage" and I'm motivated again. Now granted, if this motivation had kicked in sooner than arriving in Cyprus I probably would have won. But it's working now and I will take it. My official weigh in is August 28th, and after that, I plan to make another bet on myself. And you better believe that this time I will win.

This week I cut out carbs and focused on lean meat, fruit, veggies, and healthy fats. It's been rough to not have bread (wah) but I've comforted myself with some really good cheese. The five pounds gone on the scale tells me it's working! I also really stepped up the exercise game so I am sore all over but it's worth it to feel myself getting stronger.

My new stretch goal (one I want to work for but know it might be a bit unrealistic) is to be under 200 pounds by my birthday. I would LOVE it if on the morning of September 24th, 2018 I weighed in at 199.9 or less. I have not weighed under 200 pounds since... um... 2007. OVER A DECADE. I would love to just bust through that barrier and celebrate my birthday as a new healthier me! My birthday is on a Monday, so it's five weeks and one day from today, and I have 36.7 pounds to lose, which is about 7.3 pounds a week. So it's not completely realistic, but it's not completely crazy either. If I don't make it I won't be devastated but I'm gonna give it a try!

XOXO, Bethany
