The scale went down two pounds this week, yay! I hope that I can keep this momentum going forward. Losing two pounds a week is a healthy, safe way to lose weight. Granted, I would prefer to go much faster and considering my starting weight, that should be possible for me. But, considering I'm on week 16 of blogging about this, and my total weight loss is still sitting at around 13 pounds, I'm grateful for any movement in the right direction at all. I've averaged less than a pound a week so far, so if I can get that up to 2 pounds a week for a while I'll call it a win!
What's changed for me in the last week is two things. 1. I am doing Weight Watchers online (thanks mom!) which is helping me to be more mindful about what I eat. I love the new system in which so many healthy foods are zero points. 2. Joel and I are trying a new thing called "intermittent fasting". We are allowed to eat during the hours of 11 AM to 7 PM, the from 7 PM to 11 AM we are fasting. Theoretically, we can eat whatever we want to within those eight hours, as long as we don't eat outside of them. I am finding this schedule to be very freeing and easy to adapt to my life.
Now, when Joel first suggested this I balked because it's been drilled into me all my life that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day!" And the conventional wisdom is not wrong. However, breakfast is literally 'breaking the fast' and what is important about it is that it be a healthy meal, not what time of day it occurs. Waiting to eat until 11 is not skipping breakfast, it's just delaying it, letting the fast go on a little longer. I'm usually hungry first thing in the morning, so I thought this would be difficult for me, but I have found I have gotten used to it very quickly.
I am now rarely hungry until about 10:30 or so, and then it's just a short wait till 11. I am also finding my mornings to be much more productive as I can get started on the tasks of the day right away, rather than spending time cooking and eating food. I think this is something I could easily keep up for a long time! I will continue to keep you posted on how this goes and how it affects my weight loss!
