Healthy in 2018: Can we lose 100lbs in 12 weeks?

Bethany and I are dedicated to getting healthy in 2018. One major aspect of our Healthy in 2018 initiative is weight loss. In order to achieve our goal weights, we are going to apply diet and exercise.

Our current weights are Bethany: 261 and Joel: 271. We will weigh in every Sunday morning and post our results. Besides weight loss, we also want to hit an athletic goal: be fit enough to pass the FBI Physical Fitness Test (PFT). 

Our goal weights are:
Bethany - Stage 1: 192lbs. Stage 2: 150lbs.
Joel - Stage 1: 217 lbs. Stage 2: 182lbs.

Exercise goals:
In order to pass the PFT, we will need to do a certain amount of push-ups, sit-ups, and beat certain times in both a sprint and a long-distance run (we're not doing the optional pullups... yet!). I'll summarize the system below, but if you're interested, here are the full details

For each of the four categories, we must get at least one point. In order to pass, we need at least 12 points total. You can get up to 10 points in a single category, so it's possible to barely pass three types and still pass the test (although, incredibly difficult). 

Sit-Ups (1 minute)
Bethany - 1pt: 35; 10pts: 57+; Current best: 20
Joel - 1pt: 38; 10pts: 58+; Current best: 28

300 Meter Sprint
Bethany - 1pt: Under 65 seconds; 10pts: Under 50 seconds; Current best:  117secs
Joel - 1pt: Under 52.5 seconds; 10pts: Under 41 seconds; Current best: 68secs

Push-Ups (continuous motion)
Bethany - 1pt: 14; 10pts: 45+; Current best:  0
Joel - 1pt: 30; 10pts: 71+; Current best: 33

1.5 Mile Run
Bethany - 1pt: Under 14mins; 10pts: Under 10mins 35secs; Current best:  26mins 26secs
Joel - 1pt: Under 12mins 25secs; 10pts: Under 9mins; Current best: 18mins 44secs

The diet, so far, is simple: eat sensibly. If we can't seem to stay on track doing that, we might go for Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, or something similar. If you have suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments! For starting out, we are simply trying to do a caloric reduction while paying attention to nutritional needs.

On days that start with S or T (S or T Days, or STDs), I will decide what we do for exercise. On MWF, Bethany decides what we do. If one of us doesn't hit the goal for the weigh-in, the other person decides all diet choices for that week. You guys can monitor our progress as we will post every Sunday with our weight, any testing we've done for the PFT, and any other thoughts or comments. Our first goal is to have lost 100lbs total by May 13th! Wish us luck!
