Even on the road I wanted to continue my streak of checking out different churches this summer. Since I didn't know where to go in Sioux Falls, SD, I asked on my young clergy women Facebook page. I got several good recommendations, but the timing and location worked out best for me to go to Spirit of Joy Lutheran church.
Plus, I really liked the name. The sanctuary reminded me of the one I grew up in - very contemporary, lots of glass and concrete. It was well decorated and the baptismal font towards the back of the sanctuary was a fountain, which I loved. The service was also quite contemporary, praise songs - most of which I didn't know. I guess it's been a while since I've been to a contemporary service.
The young clergy women preacher was excellent, I really enjoyed her message about how we are all children of God and receive God's grace. I also appreciated that during communion, they offered both a juice and wine option. I'm so Methodist that having wine at communion just feels wrong, so I was glad to have the option for white grape juice instead. I left feeling buoyed for my day and the rest of the week!
XOXO, Bethany
