Today is Ash Wednesday, which is one of my favorite days of the liturgical year. "Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return." It's a sobering reminder of a truth we tend to spend the rest of the day avoiding. I found both last year and this year, that it means even more to me at Friendship Haven. A reminder of death seems even more poignant when placed on the head of a 103 year old woman.
I didn't want to take a selfie with my ashed forehead, but I couldn't resist a picture of my thumb after ashing 100 people.
May this be the start to a blessed Lenten season.
XOXO, Bethany
